I am happy to say it looks like our Indian Summer is continuing, at least for the moment! Warm days for the time of year continue and the course seems to be standing up incredibly well as a result. I certainly cannot blame the conditions for my woeful play on Sunday (7 over and 29 points will not get it done too often). The greens really were very good for the time of year, although a touch slow (how many of us left putts continually short?) but I missed a number of greens and my short game just wasn't on it at all.
However, there were plenty of you who played very well including one of my playing partners, Jerry Bishop, who only lost out in Cat A on countback to Brian Cook. Both players scored a very good 38 points considering we were right off the back tees. The same score was also made by Cat B winner Jason Whiting who narrowly beat Peter McCaig with 37 points. Well done to everyone who showed me how to do it!
Oversea Competition - Vilamoura
I am very pleased to say I have managed to arrange a trip to Vilamoura, and most importantly the Oceanico Victoria course, just before the Portuguese Masters is played there next year.
The trip will start on Sunday, 18 September when we fly out in the evening. It then includes three or four nights' bed and breakfast stay at the Vila Gale Marina hotel which is literally 50 yards from the marina and its array of restaurants and bars. We will then play on each of the next three days at Quinta Laranjal, Quinta South and Victoria. There will be an individual competition for the 2nd and 3rd rounds combined. Prizes and the prizegiving dinner are included (drinks not included!)
This really is a great opportunity to play great courses including the venue for the Portuguese Masters and with a competition to make it just a little more interesting. The cost for all of this to include golf, hotel (b&b), all transfers (to and from airport and to and from each course), prizes and presentation dinner will be:
£560 for 3 nights and £610 for 4 nights
Flights with EasyJet will be around the £150 return per person to include clubs (can be less but this gives a good idea). These will need to be booked separately by yourselves when they become available.
All are welcome - individuals, groups, couples and also non-members. If you are interested please let me know here. Rest assured you will have a great time both on and off the golf course and the weather will be outstanding at that time of year. I look forward to hearing from you all.
Winter Coaching Offer
Both Simon and I have had lots of you take up our winter offer of five x 30 minute lessons for £99 and there is still room for more. It is worth noting that Brian Cook, who won this week, has been working hard with Simon. Also, Jim McDonald, who has had two of his five with me recently, scored 42, 38 and 36 points in three consecutive rounds after his first! Come in and book up to take advantage of this great offer - it really can help! Book your package here.
Christmas Draw
We have started selling tickets for the Christmas Draw and we will continue doing so this weekend. I just want to stress how many great prizes there will be - we are aiming for around 30 prizes in total with at least five over the £100 mark. Top prize is a driver worth in excess of £250! Tickets (or numbers as it is) are £1 each so be sure to get us early as you can then get your lucky number/letter combinations!
