This week we held our first short game clinic. It was a fantastic success! We had 12 golfers attend and we worked on both bunker play and short chipping from around the green. Every golfer left taking away some valuable knowledge. Many golfers arrived with a problem shot be it getting out of bunkers or getting the ball to run towards the hole from the fringe and all have left with positive and valuable lessons.
Golfers have subsequently come and told me that they have put their newly acquired skills to use and have transformed their confidence around the greens, especially from within the bunkers.
The next short game clinic will be on the 18th of September at 5.00pm.
I will again be concentrating the session on short pitching and again there will be demonstrations, some sample teaching (I'll drag one or two of you up) and also a chance for you to try new equipment that can help with these shots. The sheet is up for you to sign up but if you would just like to reserve a place just let me know. Click here to get in touch.
N.B. We are aproaching the end (last couple of weeks) of our Cleveland Wedge Promotion. Buy 1 and get another half price. Please take advantage as I am not sure when I will be able to run this kind of product promotion again. If Cleveland is not your prefered brand then how does a Titleist Vokey or PING Glide sound. Come into the shop and let's see which is the best wedge for your game.
So, Jason Day continued his blistering run of form with victory at The Barclays on Sunday. It was the Australian's third win in his last four starts and moved him in to first place in the lucrative FedExCup standings.
Although Day's most notable skill is his length and accuracy off the tee, it was his outstanding performance on the greens that really got our attention this week; he gained more strokes putting than any other player in the field; draining them from everywhere. One highlight came on the 15th, a putt of well over 30 feet that swung from left to right downhill and dropped in the bottom of the cup. It was a real beauty, one we'd all be telling our friends about in the clubhouse afterwards.
There's no better feeling for any golfer than making a putt you would happily have made in two. We all want to reward our solid approach play by making more than we miss, so try and take some inspiration from Day's performance this weekend next time you're standing over a tough one. If you'd like us to take a look at your putting stroke, get in touch here.
I hope you enjoy the rest of my newsletter and remember – stay out of the rough!
