Hi everyone,
You can blame me for the weather as of Thursday as I came back from a scorching Portugal the previous evening. Clearly the golf Gods weren't happy and needed to punish me (must have seen what we got up to!). Clearly though the course has benefitted from the mixed weather as it looks like everything is growing like mad. Moreover, there seems to be a lot of you out there playing golf which is great to see.
Last week saw both the ladies and the men's Spring Meetings. Well done to Sally Jemmett who had the lowest nett score in the morning (73) but I have to mention Jenny Wilson who, after a lesson with myself, was narrowly pipped but returned the lowest gross score! Well done all of the ladies who competed.
The men's event was equally close. On Saturday Patrick Jongbloet led the field with a nett 68, just one shot ahead of the Italian Pro, Gianni Vitiello. Sunday though saw Steve Norcott, someone I regularly see practising at the range, come through to eventually tie with Patrick, forcing a play-off in the near future! A special mention has to go out to Martin Murphy who had yet another hole-in-one. That upset everyone in the twos sweep!!
We have just taken delivery of the new Benross range of drivers, fairways, hybrids, irons, wedges, putters and bags. This is a fantastic range with both fixed head and adjustable drivers (starting at £129!) and hybrid-iron sets starting at £249. These can be custom fit and are incredible value considering the quality and design, especially in the drivers that have a tremendous 'teardrop' shape. The woods have Aldila shafts that are used in the current Callaway range and are also fitted with Multi-Compound grips. The putters are all fitted with thick grips similar to the SuperStroke grips that we all see on tour. We have demos for you to try so come in and see them now.
More playing tips next week but let me reminder you that both the FootJoy shoe offer and the Lithium battery offer come to an end soon so take advantage while you still can!
Birdie, par, birdie, eagle, birdie, birdie. We've all finished a round like this, right?! This was Rickie Fowler's amazing finish at The Players and it just goes to show if you don't let your shoulders drop, you can come from nowhere to win.
What we find with a lot of amateur golfers is that they obsess about their score, especially when chasing Stableford points. If you stay focused and play each shot at a time, a good score will remain within your grasp.
This is a difficult game and if you can learn to accept the odd blip then you'll be better for it. Of course, hitting the odd 243-yard 3-wood to two feet will help, but don't stress if you don't pull this off every time, not even Fowler would have expected a kick-in eagle like he managed to pull off.
However, do request a lesson if there's anything you'd like help on, such as striking fairway woods off the deck like Mr Fowler, do get in touch. You know where we areā¦click here to request a lesson.
