Hi everyone, So, the cold weather has definitely arrived. I was in town on Monday with two layers beneath my thickest winter jacket and I could still feel the bitter wind that was blowing in from the north. The thought then of picking up my clubs wasn’t very appealing but clearly I am made of weaker stuff than most of you guys who turn up day in, day out. More importantly it certainly hasn’t stopped some of you from making incredible scores. Last Sunday’s stableford saw some fantastic scoring and, once again, I firstly have to commend the work that our oft unappreciated green staff have done along with Jim Turner. The lack of rain this year has not made things easy, particularly when maintenance time has come as that is exactly when you need water to aid speedy recovery, but the greens have putted pretty well all year and that’s borne out in the scoring. On Sunday Paul Davies shot the best round with a fantastic 44 points. That only just beat Ross Chapman who shot 42 points for 2nd in Division 2. Division 1 was even tighter with Greg Allen just edging Simon Cleary on countback with both players gaining 40 points. Fantastic scoring from everyone at the top - let’s hope the winter stays nice for us as long as possible. On tour we go into the last week with Justin Rose breathing down the neck of Tommy Fleetwood for the order of merit title and it is hard to imagine that they won’t both be somewhere near the top of the leaderboard come Sunday afternoon. For me Rose is looking in great form and he has the class and experience to win the event and therefore the Race to Dubai. That’s my bet but who knows - this is golf after all!
