Well what a good week it's been for my new golf betting enterprise - firstly I tell you all about how good the Captain's playing and he then wins by 4 on Sunday and I also then back Martin Kaymer in the US Open!! Seriously though well done to Mike but I am very concerned as his handicap will be hacked although he is clearly a different golfer all of a sudden so you should all be very worried still.
There was a total of six people tying in second place behind Mike on Sunday. Once again I thought the course looked and played superbly but still difficult as the greens are getting harder and harder to hold. Some of the front pins were very hard to get close to. Talking of Pinehurst - hands up who wants their course to look like that? Nobody? I'm not surprised! One of the strangest set ups I can remember seeing. To me the rough looked like it had been left unkempt and had weeds growing in it.
It certainly didn't stop Kaymer producing one of the best performances in any major for many years - probably since some of Tiger's dominant performances. His story from the last few years is interesting and worth thinking about in relation to our own games: He tried for some time to change his swing so he can draw the ball. He takes the club outside the line in his backswing which naturally makes him hit from the outside on the way down making him a cutter of the ball. For him to change that, or for any of us to change our swings that much, takes a very long time and using our swing in the meantime can be very difficult.
In the last 6 months he has gone back to his stock shot which is a little cut and as such he has proven what is really important -
we need to know where the ball is going when we make our natural swing. If it is repetitive and consistent then it doesn't really matter whether our swing is perfect or what flight shape we make (fade or draw). If we know where the ball is going we can really play then we just need a great short game to be really effective.
So you won't find me trying to change anyone's swing to any great extent. My teaching has always been based around finding what it is about your game that makes you inconsistent. If I can help you to regularly hit one shot, no matter what shape that shot is, then you will be a much better player. Then if we can improve your shape and flight over time then you'll get even better but that does take time. To find out more about lessons please visit my website here.
Looking forward we will be doing a big Sweep for The Open starting on the 17th July. There will be three prizes this time and the winner will take away the new Nike Covert 2.0 driver. Second will be the Covert 2.0 fairway wood and third a new Nike Air Sport stand bag. Entry will be £10 and there will be just 50 tickets. We will be selling tickets from this weekend but we will do things slightly differently this time with the 'sweep' only being done once all the tickets have been sold. If we sell enough for two sheets then there will be twice the prizes!!
Talking of clubs we have a SALE on our TaylorMade RBZ Stage 2 woods to match American golf - £129 for the drivers and £99 for the fairway woods. Once they're gone they're gone so if you are interested pop in soon. We also have the new JetSpeed driver in stock with our price being £189.
I am playing with John Faulkner and Ray Taylor tomorrow in the Sittingbourne Pro-Am tomorrow, the place of my great triumph last year. So I'm off to practise - news of how we did next time!!
