Hi everyone,
The season is properly here now; the course is growing like mad, (how much have the hedge rows suddenly sprung up at the sides of roads recently?) and so the course is looking close to its best. This week there has been some work done on the greens so they will appear a little rough for a week or so but as we all know from the last few years, this is the work that is ensuring we get great greens all year round.
On course tips
With that in mind the course is a slightly different proposition right now. I listened to a number of players complaining about their rounds being ruined by a couple of bad holes at the weekend and it didn't surprise me.
Anything wide now is almost dead; there is a real premium for hitting the ball straight and keeping out of the rough. Even if you find your ball it will be hard to move it far as the rough is now very heavy and lush.
So, we all need to ensure that
- Wherever possible that we find the fairway! If that means less club on trickier holes then sobeit!
- If you do find the rough then take your medicine! You will not be able to hit long shots out of it unless the ball is perched up so get your sand wedge out and get back on the fairway! Don't make things worse by getting greedy and trying too much. It will pay you in the long run.
I now have a number of pro-ams coming up that I need to finalise teams for. You can see a list below. This week has also been a good one for Warren (Trev) in the shop. He finished T3 in a Jamega Tour event on Tuesday and as I write he lies tied 4th going into the final round of a PGA Europro Tour event at Frilford Heath. I am sure you will all join us in wishing him the best. The results can be found by clicking on the links.
