He has to be next to win a Major...
It was very remiss of me not to mention Jon Rahm after The Masters who finished third, and who could well have taken the green jacket. Now, just a few days later he’s skipped across the Atlantic to win his home Open in Spain. His rise, in just a couple of seasons as a professional, has been one of the most impressive for many years. And it is no wonder when you look at his game. He is long, and if you saw him demonstrating some incredible 4 iron bunker shots at last year’s Open you won’t have any doubts about the level of his short game. I was a little annoyed that I didn’t back Patrick Reed for The Masters because before the event he would have been very near the top of a list of players who were next to win a major. With him now gone Rahm has to be the new number one. Looking forward, if you had to pick a major for him to win it would probably be the US Open. He has the length, accuracy, and short game to cope with the rough around the greens, and with it only two months away now I’ve got him as my favourite. Of course his form needs to continue but he seems to be one of those players who continually produce. I have no doubt it’s just a matter of time. Back at home and finally the nice weather seems to be here. It’s been a crazy, long winter with far too much rain for most of us. The Greenkeepers have done a pretty good job considering but they have also needed some warmer weather and we should be seeing things improve drastically in the next week or two.
Competitions have continued regardless and there has still been some very good scoring but I have no doubt we all want to be on firmer, faster greens. That are now just around the corner so let’s pray for no more rain for a while.
