Hi everyone,
Well what a fantastic win for Rory McIlroy at the weekend. After his two 66's to start the week he really was the stand out player and despite some great efforts from Fowler and Garcia on the last day, he was easily good enough in the end to keep it together and bring home the win.
Well done to everyone who took up my tip and backed Rickie Fowler each way!! I’m not sure we’ll get such good odds on him again in the near future. My other tip Graeme McDowell eventually finished 10 under and in joint 9th place – 1 shot adrift of a place on Paddy Power (gutted). Had he had a better start on day one who knows what he might have done.
Open Sweepstake
So, as I told you all, we did a draw early last week in the General Manager’s office with Megan ensuring complete impartiality and when Rory McIlroy’s number came out I was a little concerned as to who had landed him. Sure enough the luckiest man in Chestfield, Richard Miles, won the top prize yet again! Well done to Richard (I think). In second, as you all know, were Sergio Garcia and Rickie Fowler and the lucky recipients of their tickets were Ray Beer and Andy Lawrie who will have to share the second Prize!! Come into the pro shop men and we’ll sort out your prizes.
On an equipment note, Rory has gone very public about how much he loves his new driver and ball combination.
When the original Nike Covert driver came out I was somewhat unimpressed (bear in mind I have a long relationship with them and I am a Nike Ambassador) and even less impressed with the original Resin ball offering the 20XI which was harder than a Molitor.
This year’s Covert 2 driver is beautiful and a massive improvement but I have yet to be convinced about the ball. However, when Rory plays the way he has done recently, and then cites the new ball and driver as contributing factors it is hard to ignore.
I will be trying the new RZN Black ball soon (Rory uses the Black but there is also a slightly softer Platinum version) and you may well see it in the shop as a result!
You will all have noticed Rory's striking shirt (pictured above) on Sunday. He has in fact worn the same shirt in a variety of colour versions a number of times this year. We have that shirt and a number of others in stock and available to order so pop into the shop or see them on my updated site here. We also have his caps, trousers and shoes in stock!
In recent weeks we have had Professional’s day and on last Saturday we had the Captain’s Charity day.
Not only did we have a lot of fun on Pro’s Day but we also had another hole-in-one by James Snell! Well done James and to all who supported the day. Don’t you wish a birdie was always worth 5 points?? On Saturday Mike treated us to a day of fun with a live band outside the clubhouse. He even graced the microphone himself at one point which seemed to clear all of the neighbouring wildlife from the area. Despite this he managed to raise well in excess of £2,000 for his charity which is a fantastic sum and a credit to all who organised the day and then took part.
I know Mike was sweating early on as the storms rumbled around but the clouds parted at precisely the right time and the afternoon was beautiful!
