Hi everyone,
Firstly, I'd like to welcome everyone at St Augustines to my weekly newsletters. In them I will be commenting on golf matters both at home and on the bigger stage as well as other affairs if the mood takes me. You will also be seeing regular offers and news from the shop and my academy.
To everyone at Chestfield who is viewing this, if you wish unsubscribe you can by clicking on the button included in the mail, but I know many of you enjoy my wittering so you may want to stay on the mailing list. If you do you don't have to do anything. Please feel free either way - it is entirely up to you.
So, Tiger is back and he looked pretty good, didn't he? I wouldn't make too much of the last day as his chance of winning had gone and he's just that sort of guy who only wants to win. But if I was his coach I would have been ecstatic - it is not easy to just pitch up in your first tournament for 18 months and to actually contend, let alone if you're recovering from back surgery. Of course he will have been practising heavily but practice and tournament play are two very different animals. You have to play a few to get sharp but the way he has started looks pretty exciting.
Technically he still looks a little under and inside, particularly with his driver. This means he can still hit two bad shots, a push and a hook left, but what he's done with his finish position is the most positive thing. He is far more upright and has a lovely straight left side. This was done, as I understand it, to alleviate strain on his back but it also means he is swinging more within himself. To do this his hips and lower body are a little quieter and this means the misses aren't as big. I couldn't help thinking there was a hint of Ben Hogan about him in the follow through which can't be a terrible thing.
I look forward to seeing how he progresses and I really do hope he can contend again. It would be exciting for one but also one of the great sporting comebacks. I know many of you may view him negatively but from a sporting point of view the possible drama of a resurgent Tiger butting heads with Rory, Jordan and the like is something we should all want to witness. We shall see.
The New Shop
As many of you already know, and have seen, you have a new shop with a swing studio. I have a huge sale on most items, straight away, for you including 50% OFF all Nike shoes and big discounts on Benross clubs and bags.
In the coming weeks there will be more and more stock including new crested clothing and items. Come in and see me - there are plenty of bargains and I can, of course, also offer club-fitting and lessons in the indoor studio. If you haven't had lessons with me before you can come and have a taster 15 minute lesson FREE of charge so just pop in or phone the shop to book a slot. After that you can book individual lessons or packages.
At the moment I am offering a Winter Package of 5 x 30 minute lessons for £99 which can be done indoors or out.
