Hi everyone,
Well the good old British weather is doing its best to mess things up, isn't it? Storm Katie ripped through the Easter weekend and dumped some more water on our rapidly drying course to delay things just a little bit more. However, we are undaunted in our optimism as the season approaches and the bright sunshine streaming through my window right now seems to be signalling that this was just a blip.
This weekend sees the Captains' Drive-In on Saturday afternoon. I hope a great number of you will be able to join us all to wish the new Captains luck and to see out the old. As I said in my previous email, this year we have something new in that the outgoing Captains will be 'putting out' so I'm pretty sure this should provide some added entertainment. The annual torture will begin at 5:30pm but the bar will be open well in advance and there will be food to enjoy as well. See you there.
The shop is as full as it's been since I started at Chestfield. We have now had our deliveries of wedges from Titleist and Cleveland; hardware from Nike, PING and Benross; push and powered trolleys; and shoes from FootJoy, Nike and Skechers.
Literally, it's bulging at the seams
We have all sorts of deals on the go with money off bags, shoes and wedges. However, if there's anything you've seen I can almost definitely help and I will do everything I can to save you money so please ask.
Interestingly, it was great to see four major brands, three of which we are main dealers for, represented in the finals of the WGC Matchplay last weekend. PING, Nike, Titleist and TaylorMade were all showcased in the final four.
Rory's amazing carry of 286 yards into a breeze over water certainly does nothing bad for Nike's equipment reputation, but that was equally matched by Jason Day's amazing drive down the 9th in the final of nearly 400 yards. Rafa Cabrera-Bello continued his move up the world rankings and must surely be a great each-way bet for the Masters. My favourite golf swing made it to the final as Louis Oosthuizen continued his good form after changing putting styles. He couldn't quite keep up with a superb Jason Day but he too looks good for the Masters.
Talking of which, who's your money on?
I cannot remember the opening major of the year having quite so many in-form players right at the top of the world rankings going into it. Spieth was the best player for the first three days but, in true Matchplay style, then got knocked out when he had one bad day. McIlroy got better and better, Scott looked good and has been great recently, Jason Day looks a hot favourite but he will also be chased by Dustin Johnson, Bubba Watson, Louis, Rafa and Henrik Stenson who has looked excellent recently too. But what about Patrick Reed and Rickie Fowler? Oh and how about the experience of Phil Mickelson who played well again or Justin Rose who is quietly flying under the radar? It is fascinating to see just how many are clearly trying to peak for the masters and that, to me, makes it all the more exciting knowing they all genuinely believe they can win rather than just a few.
As usual we will be doing a sweepstake for The Masters so we will either see you in the next week or you can get in on the fun in the shop for just £5 per entry. There will only be 60 spots available but the winner will receive a new PING G fairway wood and the runner-up a Titleist lightweight carry bag. I've a feeling we're in for an absolute thriller with so many in the running so it would be a great shame to miss out.
Genuinely we have amazing stock for you this year with special offers in every department so please remember us as you look to get out this season. I hope to see you all at the Drive-In but otherwise I will see you around very soon.
