Hi everyone,
Being my last email before Christmas it is, perhaps, even sadder to have to mention the passing of a great Chestfield Golf Club friend, Vic Fulger. I, of course, only knew Vic for the last six years but I know many of you who will have known him for many decades. As I said it is perhaps a little sadder at this time but I am certain many of you will be raising a glass to Vic over the Christmas holiday. At the very least Christmas is a time to be close to family and to remember those who remain with us. I know that Vic will certainly be in a lot of your memories and that your thoughts will be with his family.
I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has supported us over the last year. It has, without doubt, been the busiest year at Chestfield since I came here in 2009. The success of the club has certainly been a major factor and it is great to hear so many positive comments about the course from members and visitors alike over the year. That doesn't mean we should be resting on our laurels and the club, as you know, are certainly looking at all the ways we can improve things including winter paths and tees to keep your course open as much as possible. However, the greens that we have enjoyed for the past three years or so are something which many clubs envy and we should be very grateful for the work our staff put into them.
I hope that we in the shop make your experience at Chestfield a good one. I have to say a big thank you to Stevie, my right hand woman (she thinks she runs the place - and pretty much does!) and also to Simon and 'Trev' who we are sadly losing. Whilst I am confident this won't be the last time I work with Trev I would like to wish him all the best with his new venture. If he shows half of the enthusiasm and professionalism that I know him for then he will do very well indeed. I should also mention our other part-time member of staff Nicky Stubbs who has filled in, beautifully, when we have called on her. Many thanks to all of them and I hope they have all looked after you well this year.
The Christmas draw will be made, as is traditional, after the Wall Game on the 29th. That still gives you time to get more numbers so grab us in the shop. The top prizes are: Ping G30 driver, Odyssey putter, Sunderland Vancouver waterproof suit and a Cleveland tour cart bag. There will also be some very nice electricals including a Tassimo coffee maker plus the usual array of other golf prizes and Christmas food and drink. This will include a few large bottles of bubbly for New Year's Eve.
One last word about this weekend - it's Bring a Prize, Win a Prize! That means mayhem before you go out for a shotgun start so please get to us as early as you can. I'm sure it will be a great day as usual with the weather set fair and mild for the whole weekend.
Thank you to all of you again - you will see the shop expanding its services over the next year with some very exciting things in the pipeline. Keep watching this space and remember to consider us for all your purchases as we really can save you money in most instances.
It just leaves me to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
